Dr. Gerald Mitchum was born on May 15, 1942 in Monroe, North Carolina. He graduated from East Carolina State University with a major in biology. In fulfillment of his dream to be a veterinarian, Dr. Mitchum graduated from the University of Georgia, School of Veterinary Medicine, and interned at Colorado State University. Later, he completed a Master’s degree at Massey University Veterinary Department in Palmerston North, New Zealand. He has held teaching positions in the Veterinary Departments at both Kansas State University and Massey University; and he has owned veterinary practices in Bozeman, Montana; Sparta, North Carolina; Galax, Virginia; and Southern Pines, North Carolina.

Dr. Mitchum grew up in a Godly family and accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age. Through his extended mission to Mongolia, he has developed a strong love for the people in the ‘Land of the Blue Skies’, a passion for helping them with their physical needs, a desire to spread the gospel among them, and an overpowering desire that they find their salvation through Jesus Christ.

Dr. Mitchum and his wife Frances have been married for 54 years and have two sons, Kelly and Kevin, and six grandchildren.
